VIRGINIA, Minn. – Saint John's tennis suffered a 6-3 loss at St. Scholastica in its return to conference play on Saturday, March 23, at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.
The Saints (8-7, 5-1 MIAC) swept doubles competition and the two teams split the singles matches with each squad earning a victory via the super-breaker.
Freshman
Sam Wolden (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and senior
Mark Rosen (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) won their singles matches at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively, in straight sets with tie-breakers in the first for SJU (1-6, 1-1 MIAC). Senior
Mason Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) recorded the Johnnies' third singles victory – his first match in a month (Feb. 24) – via the super-breaker: 6-4, 3-6 and 10-5.
Junior
Ryan Will (Northfield, Minn.) won his first set at No. 1 singles but was edged in the second and in the super-breaker: 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Tonight's match was the first in 15 days for SJU, which plays host to No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville (weather permitting).
