Saint John's soccer ends its 2024 season with a 3:30 p.m. game at Carleton this Saturday, Nov. 2, in Northfield. –

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (6-7-1, 3-5-1 MIAC) suffered a late, 2-1 loss at St. Olaf last Saturday (Oct. 26) in Northfield. All of the game's scoring occurred in the final eight minutes.
Freshman midfielder
Liam Hafenbrack (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) erased the scoreless draw with his first collegiate goal early in the 83rd minute for SJU, but Abdirasak Bulale tied the game 22 seconds later for the Oles.
Ryan Bechtel scored the game-winning goal on a cross from his brother, Shea, with 2:21 remaining. The defending NCAA Division III national champions, St. Olaf received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll and is ranked third in Region IX.
Senior goalkeeper
Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made nine saves in the defeat.
The Oles registered a 29-10 advantage in shots (12-3 on goal) and totaled an 8-0 margin in corner kicks.
A LOOK AT THE KNIGHTS: Carleton (10-4-3, 5-4-0 MIAC) is 5-1 in its last six games, out-scoring the opposition 22-4 during that span, including a 3-0 win last Saturday (Oct. 26) at Saint Mary's. A large part of their success can be credited to senior midfielder Owen Flanagan, who leads the team with 23 points (10g/3a). In net, junior goalkeeper Leo Kugel is 6-1-2 with a 0.34 GAA and an .893 save percentage (25 saves).
LAST FALL: The Johnnies ended the 2023 regular-season schedule with a 2-0 loss to then-No. 14 Carleton last Oct. 28 at Haws Field. The Jonathan Vonderlage-to-Ben Pennell connection provided both goals for the Knights in the 29th and 47th minutes. Siefken made six saves in the loss. Carleton posted a 17-8 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 margin in the first half.
SERIES HISTORY: SJU is 25-15-3 against Carleton since 1983, but just 10-10-2 on the Knights' home pitch. The Johnnies are 5-12-2 in the last 19 meetings (since 2007), including a 1-7-2 record at Bell Field.
