COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's sophomore swimmer
Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) and junior diver
Eli Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) were named the MIAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The honor is Grabinski's third of the season and sixth of his career, and Slavik's second of the year (third of his career).
Both honorees competed at two dual meets last week. Grabinski took second in both the 1- (266.15) and 3-meter (272.85) dives Thursday night (Jan. 18) at Division II St. Cloud State and swept both dives, posting a 287.85 in the 1-meter and a 287.25 on the 3-meter board, in Saturday's (Jan. 20) home win over Carleton. The two-time MIAC Diver of the Year currently boasts the conference's top scores in both the 1- (432.95) and 3-meter (445.10) dives this season.
Slavik provided the Johnnies' lone event win at St. Cloud State in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.64) and placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.63). On Saturday, Slavik led SJU with three individual wins: the 500- (4:52.38) and 1,650-yard (17:10.39) freestyles, and the 400-yard individual medley (4:21.56). He currently owns the MIAC's top time in the 500 Free (4:36.77), 1,000 Free (9:45.63), 1,650 Free (15:59.16), 200 Back (1:56.79) and 400 IM (4:11.10).
SJU returns to action with Gustavus Adolphus' two-day Gustie Challenge on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 2-3, in St. Peter.
