SJU Gets Back on Track With 8-1 Win

ROGERS, Minn. – Saint John's tennis returned to the win column with an 8-1 victory over Hamline on Saturday night (April 1) at the Rogers Tennis Center.

SJU (7-7, 4-2 MIAC) cruised to a 3-0 lead after doubles play and recorded three singles wins via the super-breaker. All three Johnnies with the super-breaker victories dropped their first set but fought back to earn the win: senior Wil McDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) at No. 1 (4-6, 6-3, 10-5); senior Peyton Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Willmar) at No. 2 (3-6, 6-2, 10-4); and junior Mark Rosen (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) at No. 6 (5-7, 6-2, 10-6).

The Pipers' (9-5, 1-4 MIAC) lone win was at No. 3 singles. Senior Hunter Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Willmar) and junior Daniel Perez (Quito, Ecuador) posted straight-set wins at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

The Johnnies return to the court for what is scheduled to be their home, outdoor opener against Macalester at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville.
