ORLANDO, Fla. – Saint John's tennis opened its spring-break trip with a 9-0 shutout of Saint Vincent (Pa.) on Sunday, March 5, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The Johnnies (2-1, 0-1 MIAC) built a 3-0 lead by cruising to wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, and won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Senior
Joe Dwyer (Hibbing, Minn.) and freshman
Evan Kostynick (Hudson, Wis.) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-7, thanks to a 7-4 victory in the tie-breaker.
SJU won 11 of the 12 sets in singles play by limiting the Bearcats (2-1, 0-0 PAC) to three points or less.
The Johnnies face NAIA Judson (Ill.) bright and early at 7:30 a.m. ET Monday, March 6, in Orlando.
