Results

WINONA, Minn. – Saint John's snapped a four-match skid with its first MIAC win of the season – 6-1 – at Saint Mary's on Sunday night, April 12, at the Winona Tennis Center.

The Johnnies (2-8, 1-4 MIAC) swept all three doubles matches, despite two going to a 7-6 tie-breaker, and suffered its lone singles loss to SMU (4-11, 0-6 MIAC) when junior Alex Draeger (Litchfield, Minn.) left his match at No. 1 in the second set due to injury.

Draeger and sophomore Cole Haabala (Alexandria, Minn.) improved to 5-4 (4-1 MIAC) with a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Andrew Eckmann (Eagan, Minn./Two Rivers) and freshman Nam Tran (Shakopee, Minn./Eden Prairie) did the same at No. 2 with a 7-3 tie-breaker.

Senior Taylor Duncan (Benson, Minn.) and freshman Jack Gangl (Elk River, Minn.) won their match at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.

Duncan (No. 2), Tran (No. 4), Haabala (No. 5) and Eckmann (No. 6) all cruised to singles victories in straight sets. Senior Josh Peterson (Perham, Minn.) did too but needed an 8-6 tie-breaker in his second set for the win.

SJU visits St. Scholastica for a 1 p.m. match next Sunday, April 19, in Duluth.
