A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's won its 12-team Fall Invitational last Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 17-18. The Johnnies recorded a 296 (+8) Sunday at Blackberry Ridge G.C. to finish with a two-round total of 580 (+4), 11 shots ahead of Gustavus Adolphus in second place (+15, 591). Carleton was third (+22, 598) and Concordia-Moorhead took fourth (+23, 599). SJU entered Sunday's final round with an 11-shot lead over Carleton and Gustavus thanks to Saturday's 4-under par 284 at St. Cloud C.C. Five Johnnies finished in the top 10 individually.
Junior
Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) registered Sunday's best round, a 2-under par 70, to claim his first collegiate tournament win with a two-round score of 141 (-3).

Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) led the tournament with nine birdies and tied for second among the 71 golfers with a 2-under par 142. He went -3 on his final 10 holes, including an eagle on the par-5 No. 10, to card a 73 (+2) Sunday.

Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) tied for eighth with a 148 (+4) and senior
Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) was one shot behind in a tie for 10th (+5, 149). Sophomore

Ethan Kress (Woodbury, Minn.) played as an individual and tied for 10th (+5, 149) in his first collegiate tournament.

Cameron Lemke (Avon, Minn./Albany) led SJU Blue, which tied for seventh (+37, 613), in a tie for 14th (+6, 150). Sophomore
Cole Proctor (Brainerd, Minn.) tallied Blue's best round Sunday, a 75 (+3), to tie for 21st (+8, 152).
The Johnnies' third team, SJU White, finished ninth with a 620 (+44). Junior
Nate Bauer (Andover, Minn.) tied for 21st (+8, 152) and junior
Mason Sunder (Cold Spring, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) posted a 73 (+1) Sunday to tie for 30th (+10, 154).
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Schuler was named the MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 20) for his performance at SJU's Fall Invitational. He led the 71-man field with a collective -2 on the 20 par-4 holes and tied for second with eight birdies. Schuler currently leads the Johnnies with a 72.9 scoring average through seven rounds this fall.
WHO WILL BE THERE: The Johnnies (two teams) and host Gusties (three teams) are scheduled to be joined by Augsburg (two teams), Bethel (two teams), Carleton, Concordia-Moorhead, Luther (Iowa), Macalester, Manitoba, St. Olaf, Wisconsin-Stout (two teams) and Wisconsin-Superior.

LAST YEAR'S TOURNAMENT: Then-No. 20 SJU won its fourth consecutive tournament at the 21-team Twin Cities Classic last Sept. 25-27 (2021). The Johnnies started the final round with a two-shot lead over Luther (Iowa) and fired an 11-over par 299 to claim first place (+24, 888) by 15 shots over the Norse (+39, 903). The 299 was the best final-round score by seven shots over host Gustavus, which finished fifth (+47, 911). Aside from SJU, the other 20 teams combined to average a 323 (+35). Wisconsin-Eau Claire claimed third (+45, 909) by one shot ahead of Carthage (Wis.).
Glavine Schugel won his first collegiate tournament by four shots with a three-round total of 215 (-1). He bogeyed three of his first four holes but collected a team-best four birdies to finish with a 75 (+3).
Loxtercamp, the reigning MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week at the time, tied for fifth with a 222 (+6) for his third top-five finish in four events this fall. He birdied his final hole Monday to post a 73 (+1).
Berger followed with a 74 (+2) and Gutzmer added a 77 (+5), due in large part to a triple-bogey on his 15th hole of the round (No. 17). Gutzmer and Berger tied for 17th (+12, 228) and 21st (+14, 230), respectively. Boemer finished 20th (+13, 229).
Schuler tied for eighth overall for SJU Blue, which tied Bethel's varsity for 11th (+66, 930), with a 223 (+7).
EDINA C.C.: Monday's round will be SJU's second time playing Edina C.C. competitively. The Johnnies played the course for the first time during the final round of the 2018 Twin Cities Classic. Despite the windy conditions and a 313 (+25) that day, SJU grew its lead from 10 shots to 13 and finished with a three-round total of 902 (+38) to win the tournament. The best individual round was a 77 (+5) from Jack Koehler '19.
