Johnnies Make Final Tune-Up Before MIAC Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's track and field completed a busy week at St. Olaf's Ole Open on Saturday, May 7, in Northfield.

The Johnnies won three events and collected 10 top-three marks/times on the day. SJU did not have a competitor in the 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters, long jump, triple jump or 4x400-meter relay.

Junior Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) won the 100-meter dash in 10.70 seconds, while senior Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) followed with a season-best time in third (10.83).

Junior Jaeden Frost (Omro, Wis.) won the Johnnies' other individual event, the hammer throw, with a season-best toss of 48.49 meters.

SJU's 4x100-meter relay (Jack Young, Arthur, Brady Labine, Seth Cattoor) improved its season-best time to take first in 41.80 seconds, which leads the MIAC.

Junior Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) placed second in the discus (46.14 meters) and freshman Jack Meyer (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) was second in the javelin (41.95 meters).

Freshman Joe Gathje (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) went head-to-head with St. Olaf's Waylon Kurts in the steeplechase and finished second (10:23.07), while junior Justus White (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) claimed second out of three participants in the 110-meter hurdles (16.58).

Senior Dillon Diekmann (Lake Elmo, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) took third in the 800 meters (1:57.69) and sophomore Max Doom (Edina, Minn.) was third in the pole vault (3.98 meters).

The Johnnies set their sights on the 2022 MIAC Outdoor Championships this Friday-Saturday, May 13-14, at Saint Mary's Outdoor Complex in Winona.
