BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Saint John's junior Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the mile run on Saturday, March 14 at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Stencel was between ninth and 10th for the race's first five laps before a 28.95-second lap bumped him to seventh. He stayed in seventh with his best lap time – 28.07 – and slipped to eighth in 4:16.00.
He claimed third in the first of two heats and eighth overall in yesterday's prelim to qualify for today's final.
Stencel is the first Johnnie to earn All-America honors in the event and the 20th overall indoors (20 Johnnies now combine for 26 All-America honors in indoor track and field).
SJU track & field begins the outdoor season March 26-27 at WashU's (Mo.) Distance Carnival.
