SJU Ends Golf Season in 26th at NCAA Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Saint John's golf ended the 2021-22 season with a 26th-place finish out of 43 teams at the NCAA Division III Championship on Wednesday, May 11, at Mission Inn Resort's Las Colinas G.C. (par 71).

The Johnnies recorded a 325 (+41) Wednesday to finish with a two-round total of 633 (+61), 16 shots from the cut line (top 18 teams).

SJU recorded only two birdies on the day and was +15 at the turn, but went a collective +38 on the final nine holes.

Of the +61 during the two days, +18 came on the eight par-3 holes between the two courses.

Sophomore Glavine Schugel (New Ulm, Minn.) went +2 on the final 12 holes and led SJU with a 78 (+7) to finish with a two-round score of 161 (+18).

Junior Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) and sophomore Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) followed with an 82 (+11) each to tie with a 158 (+15).

Sophomore Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) was two shots behind with a 160 (+17), following his 83 (+12) Wednesday, and sophomore Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) finished with a 167 (+24).
