MOVING INDOORS…AGAIN: The Johnnies' regular-season finale was scheduled to be their home (outdoor) opener at the Chang Tennis Complex, but this spring's poor weather came through once again and moved it indoors.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (9-6, 5-3 MIAC) fell to regionally ranked Carleton by an 8-1 score this past Sunday (April 24) at Sta-Fit. Juniors
Hunter Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Willmar) and
Wil McDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) won the lone match for SJU with a thrilling 8-7 (7-4) victory at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore
Daniel Perez (Quito, Ecuador) suffered a defeat at No. 6 singles via the super-breaker: 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
Carleton was ranked 15th in the Central Region by ITA in the latest poll released April 22. Individually, Tarm Rojanasoonthon is ranked sixth in the region in singles play. He defeated McDowell at No. 1, 6-2 and 6-1.
PLAYOFFS: The Johnnies have already clinched their eighth MIAC Playoff appearance in the last 10 seasons and will either play Bethel or Carleton in the MIAC quarterfinals next Wednesday, May 4.
A LOOK AT THE PIPERS: Hamline (5-12, 2-5 MIAC) suffered a 7-2, non-conference loss to Northwestern yesterday (April 26). The Eagles swept all three doubles matches. HU's two wins came from junior Sam Thompson at No. 2 (6-3, 7-6) and sophomore Elijah Krause at No. 4 (7-5, 7-5). Thompson is 6-11 (6-7 at No. 2) and Krause is 6-8 (5-5 at No. 4) this spring.
LAST SPRING: The Johnnies swept all three matches, the closest an 8-3 decision at No. 3, and won five of the six bouts in straight sets against Hamline last March 21 (2021) in Sartell.

Peyton Fischer (No. 4; Spicer, Minn./Willmar) and sophomore
Mason Meyer (No. 5; Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) all moved to 3-0 on the year in singles play. Gillach and McDowell scored an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles, while
Peyton Fischer and
Hunter Fischer scored an 8-3 win at No. 3. Nate Jorde '21 won his first set at No. 2 singles, 6-0 but Nazeer Robinson battled back to win the second (7-5) and took the match for HU via the super-breaker, 12-10.
SERIES HISTORY: SJU is 28-3 against Hamline since the 1992 season, including a current 14-match win streak since the Pipers' last series win in 2006 (7-2 in Sartell).
