SARTELL, Minn. - Regionally ranked Carleton defeated Saint John's tennis 8-1 on Sunday, April 24, at Sta-Fit in Sartell. The match was moved indoors Sunday due to the wet and windy conditions.
Juniors
Hunter Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Willmar) and
Wil McDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) won the lone match for SJU (9-6, 5-3 MIAC) with a thrilling 8-7 (7-4) victory at No. 1 doubles.
The Knights (12-5, 6-1 MIAC) won the other two doubles matches with 8-3 scores and five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophomore
Daniel Perez (Quito, Ecuador) suffered a defeat at No. 6 singles via the super-breaker: 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
Carleton was ranked 15th in the Central Region by ITA in the latest poll released April 22. Individually, Tarm Rojanasoonthon is ranked sixth in the region in singles play. He defeated McDowell at No. 1, 6-2 and 6-1.
The Johnnies hope to host Hamline for their home opener, and the regular-season finale, at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Collegeville. The early forecast, however, may move the match indoors again to Sta-Fit.
