SAUK CENTRE, Minn. – Saint John's golf won its 16-team, Winter Classic tournament by one shot on a windy Saturday, April 23, at Lynx National G.C. (par 72) in Sauk Centre.
Down by five shots with four holes to go, the Johnnies started the rally by going a combined 6-under par on the par-5, 625-yard No. 15 and tallied two more birdies on No. 16.
SJU recorded its sixth win of the season with a 293 (+5), a shot ahead of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in second (+6, 294). No. 19 Gustavus Adolphus was third with a 295 (+7), followed by Bethel (+13, 301) and SJU Blue (+23, 311).
Sophomore
Glavine Schugel (New Ulm, Minn.) carded seven birdies and tied for second out of 89 golfers with a 1-under par 71, his 10th round at par or better this season.
Sophomore
Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) went 5-under par on the course's four par-5 holes, including an eagle on No. 15, and tied for fourth with an even-par 72.
Junior
Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) collected six birdies during his round of 74 (+2) to tie for 11th and sophomore
Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) totaled a 76 (+4) in a tie for 15th. Sophomore
Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) rounded out the Johnnies' five with a 79 (+7).

Parker Bartels (Oxbow, N.D./Kindred) led SJU Blue with a 2-over par 74, including an eagle on the par-5 No. 8, to tie with Gutzmer for 11th. Freshman
Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) and junior
Cameron Lemke (Avon, Minn./Albany) tied for 23rd with a 78 (+6) each. Lemke matched Schugel with a career-high seven birdies.
Sophomore
Mason Sunder (Cold Spring, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) led SJU White, which finished 11th (+34, 322), with a 78 (+6).
The Johnnies host another single-round tournament, the SJU Spring Invitational, at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow (Sunday, April 24) at Monticello C.C. (par 71) in Monticello.
