Saint John's tennis returns to conference play by hosting No. 19 Gustavus Adolphus at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
CHANGE OF VENUE: Saturday's match was scheduled to be the Johnnies' outdoor opener at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville, but temperatures in the 40's and winds at 15-20 MPH forced the bout indoors.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (7-3, 4-0 MIAC) suffered a 7-0 loss to Division II Augustana last Saturday night (March 26) in Sioux Falls, S.D. The match was played under Division II rules, in which the three doubles matches were played to six points (instead of eight) and counted as one point toward the final score.

Peyton Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Willmar) and freshman
Ryan Will (Northfield, Minn.) won the lone match for SJU (7-3, 4-0 MIAC) at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, to improve to 8-3 this season.
The Vikings won the other two doubles matches 6-0 and the six singles bouts in straight sets.
A LOOK AT THE GUSTIES: Gustavus Adolphus (14-9, 3-0 MIAC) is coming off a 5-5 trip over March 18-24 in California. The Gusties will send a portion of their team to face Saint Mary's Saturday morning in Winona, while another group ventures north to Sartell. GAC was ranked No. 19 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings released March 24 (the next rankings are scheduled for April 7) and fifth in the Central Region. Senior Indraneel Raut (8-11 record, 3-7 at No. 1) is ranked sixth in the region and senior Nick Aney (9-10, 1-0 MIAC) is 21st. Aney and junior Alex Budde (8-11, 5-7 at No. 1) are ranked fifth regionally among doubles pairs.
A YEAR AGO: SJU suffered its first loss of the 2021 season, 9-0, at Gustavus Adolphus last March 27 (2021) in St. Peter.

Wil McDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) were the closest to victory for SJU with an 8-6 defeat at No. 1 doubles.

Mason Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) was the lone Johnnie to reach two points in singles play against GAC.
