The Johnnie tennis team travels to face Division II Augustana (S.D.) for a non-conference match at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (7-2, 4-0 MIAC) returned to the conference schedule with a 7-2 win over St. Olaf last Saturday (March 19) at the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center in Owatonna.
The Johnnies won two of the three doubles matches and five singles bouts in straight sets. Both wins for St. Olaf were thanks to a tie-breaker.
Sophomore
Mike Krasowski (Wausau, Wis./East) won his fourth consecutive match to improve to 5-1 (4-0 MIAC) on the season at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-3).
A LOOK AT THE VIKINGS: Augustana (4-9, 0-4 MIAA) enters Saturday's contest riding a four-match losing streak since its last win, a 6-1 victory March 7 over Stonehill (Mass.), in Orlando (SJU lost to Stonehill by a 7-0 score March 11). A pair of freshmen, Henry Dornbusch (all at No. 1) and Justin Karcher (5-2 at No. 2), lead the Vikings with 7-4 singles records. Augie is 13-24 (.351) in doubles matches this season.
THE LAST TIME: SJU saw its win streak end at four matches with a 6-3 loss to Augustana the last time these two teams met on March 25, 2018, at the 98th Street Racquet Club in Bloomington. SJU gained a 2-1 lead after doubles competition but won only one of the six singles matches.
Thomas Gillach '21 and Tim Larson '18 improved to 11-1 overall and 10-0 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 win, their 10th in a row.
Nate Jordre '21 and Jonah Punnoose '19 won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, to move to 8-4 (7-3 at No. 2) on the year.
Jordre won his eighth consecutive match at No. 6 singles, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5), to move to 12-1 overall, including an 8-0 (7-0 at No. 6) mark in dual competition.
The Vikings won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies are 6-3 against Augustana in the last nine meetings, though the Vikings have won the last two. Saturday's match is the first for SJU in Sioux Falls, S.D.
