COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University senior forward
Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn.) collected his second MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season on Monday, Dec. 12.
Michel totaled six points (2g/4a) as SJU (6-5-2, 3-2-1 MIAC) went 1-0-1 over the weekend, including a career-high five points (1g/4a) in the Johnnies' 6-0 shutout of Concordia (Wis.) Friday night in St. Cloud. He served as the primary assist on all three of senior captain
Auggie Moore's (Edina, Minn.) goals in the first period, scored a power-play goal in the second and served as another primary assist on the game's final tally in the third.
He ended the weekend with an even-strength goal, which tied the game at 1-1 in the second period, in SJU's neutral-site tie (2-2) against Lawrence (Wis.) Saturday night in Rosemount.
Michel leads SJU in goals (11) and points (18) in 12 games played this season. Nationally, Michel is tied for the NCAA Division III lead with six power-play goals and is third in goals per game (0.92).
The Johnnies return to conference play in the New Year with a home-and-home series against Gustavus Adolphus, beginning with a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Jan. 6, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The two teams complete the weekend series at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in St. Peter.
