Saint John's soccer opens a three-game homestand with a 4 p.m. match against Wisconsin-Platteville this Saturday, Sept. 4, at Haws Field. – Live Stats/Live Video

MASK POLICY: All students, employees & visitors to campus are required to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

SJU expects masking for unvaccinated individuals in high-density outdoor events where social distancing cannot be maintained (Clemens Stadium & the tailgate lot).

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (0-1 overall) opened the 2021 season with a 2-0, non-conference loss at St. Scholastica on Wednesday (Sept. 1) in Duluth.

CSS gained a 1-0 lead on a goal from Nolan Friday in the 27th minute. Jordan Finneran serviced a long ball to Finigan Huffington at the back post, who redirected a header back across the goal to Friday. Arseno Hamilton made it 2-0 with a free kick from 54 yards out in the 59th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made one save in his first collegiate appearance as SJU out-shot CSS, 10-6 (5-3 on net).

The two programs meet again at Saints Field, this time in MIAC play, Oct. 26.

A LOOK AT THE PIONEERS: Wisconsin-Platteville (0-1 overall), like SJU, started its 2021 campaign with a loss on Wednesday. The Pioneers allowed three straight goals - the first two in a span of 53 seconds - in the first 20 minutes of the second half in a 3-1 home loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.). A penalty kick from freshman Quincy Ott erased the shutout for Platteville in the 81st minute. Senior goalkeeper Will Sullivan made four saves in the loss as the Pioneers out-shot the Engineers, 18-12 (15-8 on goal). The game was the first for Platteville, which did not compete at all during the 2020-21 season, in 669 days. Sophomore Jack Gentilli returns after leading UWP with 15 points (7g/1a) in 2019 (an 8-8-3 record).

EIGHT YEARS AGO: The two programs played to a scoreless tie the last time they met on Sept. 14, 2013, in Platteville, Wis. The Pioneers held a 23-11 advantage in shots, though the Johnnies posted a 9-8 edge on goal. Kevin Lebahn '16 made the eight stops for his fourth career shutout.

SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies are 3-0-1 all-time against the Pioneers, including a 2-0 record in Collegeville.
