A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: No. 20 Saint John's continued its winning ways with a first-place finish out of 11 teams at its fall invitational Sept. 19 at Blackberry Ridge G.C. (par 72) in Sartell.

The Johnnies won the tournament by 29 shots with a two-day total of 580 (+4). SJU White tied with Bethel's varsity for second (+33, 609) and SJU Blue finished fourth (+40, 616). SJU carded Sunday's best round, a 295 (+7), which was 12 shots better than the second-best (SJU White, +19/307) thanks to the windy conditions. The Johnnies were 3-under par as a team at the turn.

Johnnies claimed the top three spots on the individual leaderboard, led by sophomore Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) in first place with a 141 (-3). Junior Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) and sophomore Glavine Schugel (New Ulm, Minn.) tied for second at 145 (+1). Gutzmer recorded a 1-under par 71 Sunday, while Loxtercamp and Schugel posted a 73 (+1) each.

Sophomores Blake Schuler (Waconia, Minn.) and Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) rounded out the Johnnies' five in a tie for ninth (+6, 150) and 14th (+9, 153), respectively.

Sophomore Mason Sunder (Cold Spring, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) led SJU White with a 149 (+5) to tie for seventh and freshman Andrew Boemer (Eagan, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) tied for fifth with a 148 (+4) for SJU Blue.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Loxtercamp was named the MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week Tuesday (Sept. 21). He earned the first medalist honor of his collegiate career - his second top-two finish in three events this fall - with a two-day total of 141 (-3) as No. 20 SJU won its third consecutive tournament to start the 2021-22 season by 29 shots with a two-day total of 580 (+4) Sept. 18-19 at its fall invitational.

Loxtercamp collected eight birdies and was the only player out of 66 in the tournament to finish under par (-4) on par-4 holes. He is currently third on the team and fourth in the MIAC with a 73.4 scoring average in seven rounds this season.

BIRDIES AND PAR 5'S: Gutzmer led the field with nine birdies and finished -6 on par-5 holes in the tourney, one shot ahead of sophomore Cameron Lemke (Avon, Minn./Albany) at -5. Gutzmer also tied with Schugel for the best scoring, -1, on the eight par-3 holes.

THREE IN A ROW: The Johnnies have won three events (or more) in a row 11 times since the 2000-01 season, including this fall. The last occurrence was during the 2016-17 season, where SJU won the Twin Cities Classic – a 16-team tournament – and then the MIAC Championship in October. The Johnnies returned that spring to win the three-team Arizona Christian Invitational and a triangular against Augsburg and Gustavus Adolphus.

The last time SJU won three consecutive events, which included 10 teams or more each, was in Fall 2010. The best win streak for Johnnie golf was 10 consecutive wins, the entire Spring 2008 season (including the NCAA Division III title) and the first four events of Fall 2008.
