A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (2-2-1 overall) returns to the pitch Saturday for the MIAC's final soccer game of the 2021 spring season. SJU suffered a 2-1, overtime defeat at Saint Mary's its last time out back on April 25 in Winona. Cerim Palislamovic scored the game-winner for the Cardinals 2:53 into the extra frame.

Sophomore Cavin Allen (Excelsior, Minn./Chanhassen) tied the game at 1-1 for SJU with his first goal of the season, and second of his career, off a corner kick from senior Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) in the 77th minute.

A shot off the post went across the goal mouth to SMU's Diego Rivera 10:31 into the second half.

Sophomore Jake Swanson (Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) made three saves in the loss as SJU out-shot the Cardinals 15-10, though shots on net were even at 5-5. The Johnnies posted a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

A LOOK AT THE TOMMIES: St. Thomas (2-0-0 overall) posted a 1-0 shutout of Bethel last Saturday (May 1) in St. Paul. The Tommies' previous matches were a 1-0 exhibition loss to St. Olaf April 24 and a 3-0 win April 8 at Saint Mary's. Sophomore McRay Drong leads the team with two goals. Three goalkeepers, led by senior Niklas Martensson's 90 minutes, have combined for the two-game shutout. Martensson allowed the lone goal in the exhibition loss to the Oles.

TWO SEASONS AGO: The Johnnies suffered their first conference loss of the season, 3-1 at St. Thomas, on a rain-soaked Oct. 1 (2019) in St. Paul.

Kagan Foster '20 gave SJU a quick 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season 7:33 into the game.

The Tommies, however, answered with a pair of goals in the 38th (Jonathan Acevedo) and 41st (Jake Amey) minutes. Jack Barry added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute.

Nicholas French '20 made a season-high eight saves in the loss as UST out-shot the Johnnies by a 16-5 margin (11-1 on goal). The eight stops were the most for French since he made 10 saves in a 3-1 home loss to Wartburg (Iowa) on Sept. 8, 2017.
