WHEELING, W.Va. – No. 12 Saint John's golf finished in a tie for 15th at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday, May 14, at Oglebay Resort's Jones Course (par 71).
No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan won its second consecutive national title with a four-round total of 1,154 (+24). A pair of North Carolina schools, No. 1 Methodist and No. 2 Guilford, followed in second (+36, 1,168) and third (+47, 1,179), respectively.
SJU totaled a 305 (+21) Friday to total a four-day score of 1,218 (+86) and tie with Webster (Mo.). Webster's Will Hocker earned medalist honors with a 285 (+2).
Freshman
Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) tied for 50th with a 304 (+21) to lead the Johnnies, while freshman
Glavine Schugel (New Ulm, Minn.) was a shot behind in a tie for 57th (+22, 305).
Sophomore
Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) and senior
Esten Stensrud (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska) tied for 76th with a 310 (+27). Gutzmer led SJU Friday with four birdies and a 4-over par 75, while Stensrud carded a 77 (+6) in his final collegiate round.
Freshman
Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) rounded out the Johnnies' five in a tie for 87th (+30, 313).
