Johnnie Golf Begins Friday’s Final Round Tied for 14th at NCAA’s

WHEELING, W.Va. – No. 12 Saint John's golf begins Friday's final round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships tied for 14th following its 315 (+31) on Thursday, May 13, at Oglebay Resort's Jones Course (par 71).

The Johnnies begin the fourth and final round at 8:20 a.m. ET Friday, May 14, off No. 1 with No. 4/5 Piedmont (Ga.) and Westminster (Pa.). 

The defending Division III champion, No. 6 Illinois Wesleyan (+15, 863), begins the final round with a 15-shot lead over No. 1 Methodist (N.C.).

Freshman Sam Berger (Waconia, Minn.) led SJU with a 2-over par 73 Thursday and is tied for 45th with a three-round total of 228 (+16). 

Freshman Nate Loxtercamp (Richmond, Minn./Melrose Area) followed with a 78 (+7). He rattled off three straight birdies (Nos. 4-6), but went +4 on his final three holes.

Senior Esten Stensrud (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Area) went -1 on his final three holes to post a 79 (+8), while sophomore Thomas Gutzmer (Jordan, Minn.) and freshman Glavine Schugel (New Ulm, Minn.) carded an 85 (+14) each. Gutzmer was plagued by two triple-bogeys, while Schugel took a 10 (+5) on the par-5 No. 14, a hole he birdied Tuesday. Schugel is tied with Berger and seven others for 45th.
