A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (7-8-1, 4-6-0 MIAC) ended the regular-season schedule with a 1-0, overtime loss to Carleton yesterday (Oct. 30) at Haws Field.
Trevor Jones provided the heroics for Carleton with his second goal of the season 5:25 into overtime. The Knights out-shot SJU 16-8 (5-3 on goal), though the Johnnies amassed 10 corner kicks to the visitors' nine. Freshman
Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) stopped four shots in the loss.
ANOTHER LATE LOSS: The opposition has scored the deciding goal in the 83rd minute or later in each of the Johnnies' last five losses.
SJU'S MIAC PLAYOFF HISTORY: The Johnnies are making their 11th appearance in the MIAC Playoffs, which were established in 2003, and eighth in the last nine seasons. SJU is 5-9-2 in the conference tournament (1-3-1 against Gustavus), including a 4-7-1 record on the road.
A LOOK AT THE GUSTIES: Gustavus Adolphus (14-4, 8-2 MIAC) extended its win streak to five games with a 3-0 home shutout of Macalester on Saturday (Oct. 30). The Gusties scored all three goals in the game's first 24 minutes and out-shot the Scots by a 20-4 margin (15-1 on net). Four Gusties have double digits in points, led by senior forward Matt Gibbons' team-leading 23 (9g/5a). Senior forward Cole Schwartz is second with 18 (7g/4a), followed by freshman midfielder Owen Johnson (2g/11a) and freshman forward Ethan Miller (5g/4a).
THE WINNER: An SJU win Monday would send the Johnnies to the MIAC regular-season champions, No. 10 St. Olaf (16-1-1, 10-0-0 MIAC), for a 2 p.m. semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The Gusties would visit second-seeded Carleton (11-3-2, 8-2-0 MIAC) at the same time and day.
FIVE WEEKS AGO: SJU suffered a 1-0 loss to Gustavus earlier this season on Sept. 24 in Collegeville.Scott Heinen scored deciding goal for Gustavus early in the 62nd minute. Siefken made a diving save on a shot from GAC's Matt Gibbons, but the rebound when to Siefken's right and found a wide-open Heinen. Siefken finished with seven saves.
The Johnnies nearly tied the game on a pair of shots that just missed wide of the right post in the final minutes, junior forward

SERIES HISTORY: SJU is 18-23-6 against Gustavus since 1979, including an 10-11-3 record in St. Peter (1-2-1 in the MIAC Playoffs). The Gusties have won each of the last six meetings overall.
