A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (7-7-1, 4-5-0 MIAC) suffered another late loss, 2-1, Tuesday (Oct. 26) at St. Scholastica in Duluth. Jordan Finneran scored the game-winning goal for CSS with 2:22 remaining. The Saints gained a 1-0 lead on a goal from Chris Galley in the 24th minute.

Junior midfielder Matt D. Anderson (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) tied the game at 1-1 with his fourth goal of the season (seventh of his career) early in the 74th minute. A corner kick from senior forward Tommy Picka (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) found junior forward Ryan Erickson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan), who chipped it to Anderson for the game-tying tally.

An SJU goal from senior forward Guy Mohs (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) was disallowed, and instead a foul was issued, in the 53rd minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made four saves in the loss.

CSS posted a narrow edge in shots, 13-11, though shots on net were even at 7-7. SJU out-shot the Saints 7-4 in the second half and recorded a 7-4 margin in corner kicks for the game.

LATE LOSSES LATELY: The opposition has scored the deciding goal in the 83rd minute or later in each of the Johnnies' last four losses.

A LOOK AT THE KNIGHTS: Carleton (10-3-2, 7-2-0 MIAC) extended its win streak to five games with a 4-3 victory over St. Scholastica last Saturday (Oct. 23) in Duluth. The Saints scored a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and Carleton responded with a goal of their own in the 58th minute to cut its deficit in half, 2-1. A CSS player picked up his second yellow card of the game 46 seconds later and the Saints played a man down the rest of the way. The Saints scored increased the lead back to two (3-1) in the 69th minute, but Carleton added three more goals on penalty kicks in the 70th, 75th and 86th minutes for the win. Senior forward Marco da Cunha leads the team in all five offensive categories: goals (7), assists (4), points (18), shots (37) and shots on goal (18). Senior forward Tonny Aton is close behind with six goals and 14 points. Junior Alexei Thomas is 7-2-2 with a 1.12 GAA and a .683 save percentage (28 saves) in net.

TWO YEARS AGO: SJU ended the regular season with a 3-0 win over Carleton the last time these two teams met on Nov. 2, 2019, at Haws Field.

M.D. Anderson scored a pair of goals off corner kicks, his second and third tallies of the season, in the win. The first, a nice corner-feed from forward Patrick Erredge '20, gave SJU a quick 1-0 lead 2:26 into the game. His second, in the 68th minute, padded the Johnnies' lead to 3-0. Erickson sent a corner kick to the middle of the box where it found Anderson, who sent his own shot deflection to the back of the net.

Forward Kagan Foster '20 scored the Johnnies' other goal, his team-leading 10th of the season, with 2:16 remaining in the first half. Midfielder Martin Cortes '20 lobbed a pass over midfield to Foster, who split two defenders and ripped a shot from the top of the box to the far post.

Goalkeeper Payton Spencer '20 made five saves to record his first shutout of the season (seventh of his career) and improve to 6-4 on the year. Carleton held slim statistical margins in shots (13-11), shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (7-6).

SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies are 25-12-3 against the Knights since 1983, but the series is even at 9-9-2 in Northfield during that span. SJU are 1-6-2 in its last nine games at Bell Field.
