ORLANDO, Fla. – Saint John's tennis suffered a 5-2 setback to Division II Cedarville (Ohio) on Thursday, March 5, at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.
The Johnnies (7-2 overall) won two of the three doubles matches but the pair of victories counted as one point toward the team score.
Juniors
Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and
Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) won at No. 1 (7-5), while junior
Cole Dutko (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater Area) and senior
Jarod Swoboda (Willmar, Minn.) tallied a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Gillach improved to 7-1 on the year with the Johnnies' lone singles win at No. 2, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-4. Jordre lost at No. 1 via the super-breaker: 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. The Yellowjackets (4-4 overall) won the other four matches in straight sets.
The Johnnies wrap up their spring-break trip with an 11:30 a.m. ET match against Ohio Northern on Friday, March 6, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
