The Johnnie tennis team plays host to Concordia-Moorhead at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) opened its conference schedule with a 9-0 shutout of Hamline last Sunday (Feb. 16) at Life Time Fitness in Bloomington. The Johnnies swept five singles matches in straight sets and took advantage of a forfeit at No. 6, as well as No. 3 doubles.

Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and
Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) battled to an 8-6 win over the Pipers' Tou Ger Xiong and Nazeer Robinson at No. 1. Senior
Jess Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) and freshman Wil DcDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) won SJU's other doubles match at No. 2, 8-2. All four Johnnies registered singles wins, as well as freshman
Hunter Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Wilmar) at No. 5.
A LOOK AT THE COBBERS: Concordia-Moorhead (2-4, 0-0 MIAC) ended a four match-losing streak with a 5-4 win on Sunday (Feb. 16) at Wisconsin-Superior. The Cobbers, who were picked seventh out of 10 teams in the MIAC Preseason Poll (released Jan. 23), received the match-clinching win from junior Jake Peters at No. 6 singles. Jared Saue and Erik Porter picked up the lone doubles victory at No. 1 by a score of 8-4. The duo has recorded a 3-3 record at No. 1 doubles so far this season.Â
LAST SPRING: SJU opened its conference schedule with a 5-4 win over Concordia back on March 16 (2019) in Fargo, N.D. The Johnnies clawed back from a 2-1 deficit following doubles play with wins in four of the six singles matches, including Nos. 4-6, to earn the victory.
The Cobbers edged the Johnnies at both No. 1 (8-6) and No. 2 [8-7 (7-4)] doubles, but junior
Parker Dutko (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater Area) and
Hunter Krebsbach '19 posted an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Gillach won at No. 1 singles (7-5, 6-2) and the Johnnies posted straight-set victories at Nos. 4-6: Krebsbach at No. 4 (6-4, 7-5); senior
Jarod Swoboda (Willmar, Minn.) at No. 5 (6-3, 6-3); and Hansen at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2).
SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies are 25-9 against Concordia since 1989, including a 15-2 record on their home court (with wins in each of the last eight in either Sartell, St. Joseph or Collegeville).
