SJU Opens MIAC Tennis Schedule With 9-0 Shutout

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Saint John's tennis opened its conference schedule with a 9-0 shutout of Hamline on Sunday, Feb. 16, at Life Time Fitness in Bloomington.

The Johnnies (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) swept five singles matches in straight sets and took advantage of a forfeit at No. 6, as well as at No. 3 doubles. 

Juniors Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) battled to an 8-6 win over the Pipers' (0-3, 0-2 MIAC) Tou Ger Xiong and Nazeer Robinson at No. 1.

Senior Jess Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) and freshman Wil McDowell (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) won SJU's other doubles match at No. 2, 8-2.

All four Johnnies registered singles wins, as well as freshman Hunter Fischer (Spicer, Minn./Willmar) at No. 5.

The Johnnies host Concordia-Moorhead (2-4, 0-0 MIAC) for a 7 p.m. match this Saturday, Feb. 22, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
