COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University senior Trey Collins (Plentywood, Mont./Royalton) and the rest of the 2019 cross country team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors on Thursday, Jan. 30.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 25 percent at the NCAA Regional.

A nutrition major with a 3.63 GPA, Collins crossed the finish line 17th out of 219 runners at the MIAC Championship and 41st out of 199 participants at the NCAA Central Regional in November.

Twenty-nine Johnnies combined for a cumulative team GPA of 3.45. A total of 172 men's programs earned the Division III honor. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must record a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.

In addition to Collins, three other Johnnies achieved 2019 Academic All-MIAC distinction last week (Jan. 21): sophomore Andy Goldsmith (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall), an integrative science major with a 3.87 GPA; junior Seth Jackson (Eagan, Minn.), a chemistry major (pre-engineering emphasis) with a 3.68 GPA; and junior Noah Webb (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech), an accounting major with a 3.65 GPA.

In order to qualify for MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition, student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Athletically, student-athletes in cross country must be a member of their team's top seven at the MIAC Championship or finish in the top 100 at the meet.

SJU finished sixth out of 11 teams at the MIAC Championship and ninth out of 28 teams at the NCAA Central Regional.
