SJU Ends 2019 Season With Semifinal Loss

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's tennis ended its 2019 season with an 8-1 loss at No. 38 Carleton in the MIAC Playoff Semifinals on Thursday, May 2, in Northfield.

The sophomore tandem of Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) won the lone match for SJU (9-9, 6-3 MIAC) with an 8-6 upset at No. 1 doubles over the Knights' Jordon O'Kelly and Leo Vithoontien, who are the third-ranked doubles team in the Central Region.

Carleton (23-3, 8-1 MIAC) swept all six singles matches, though two were by a 10-8 win in the super-breaker. Seniors Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and Hunter Krebsbach (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) both won their first sets by 6-4 scores at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, but suffered super-breaker losses.
