SARTELL, Minn. - Saint John's tennis completed a 2-0 weekend with a 9-0 shutout of Saint Mary's on Sunday, April 7, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
The Johnnies (6-7, 3-2 MIAC) won all six singles matches in straight sets over the Cardinals (6-11, 1-8 MIAC). Sophomore
Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and senior
Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) allowed only one match point each at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, while sophomore
Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) and senior
Hunter Krebsbach (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) swept their sets at Nos. 1 and 5 by 6-2 scores.
Gillach and Jordre improved to 8-1 (3-0 MIAC) with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Meger and senior
Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) moved their mark to 7-2 (3-0 MIAC) with an 8-5 decision at No. 2.
The Johnnies are scheduled to host two more matches next weekend at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville: St. Olaf at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, and St. Thomas at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14.
