SJU Returns to the Win Column vs. Bethel, 6-3

SARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's tennis snapped a two-match skid with a 6-3 win over Bethel on Saturday, April 6, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.

SJU (5-7, 2-2 MIAC) gained a 2-1 lead after doubles competition, including the sixth straight victory from sophomores Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn.) at No. 1 (8-5). The duo is now 7-1 (2-0 MIAC) on the year.

Gillach won his singles match at No. 2 in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), while the other three SJU wins were via the super-breaker. The Royals (8-8, 3-2 MIAC) won at Nos. 1 and 4 singles.

Seniors Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Hunter Krebsbach (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) both won their first set with a seventh point, dropped the second set and took the match via the super-breaker at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively.

Junior Jess Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) lost his first set (6-4), scored a 7-5 win in the second and claimed the victory at No. 6 in the super-breaker (10-5).

The Johnnies host Saint Mary's (6-10, 1-7 MIAC) for a 2 p.m. match on Sunday, April 7, in Sartell.
