LAKEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's tennis completed its regular-season schedule with a 9-0 loss to No. 38 Carleton on Sunday, April 28, at Life Time Fitness in Lakeville.

The Knights (22-3, 8-1 MIAC), who are ranked eighth in the Central Region, handed sophomores Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) their first loss at No. 1 doubles (8-3) and the duo of seniors Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) their second at No. 2 (8-3).

Punnoose won his first set at No. 4 singles but suffered a loss via the super-breaker: 2-6, 6-0 and 10-6.

Gillach recorded the Johnnies' closest straight-set match at No. 2, 7-5 and 6-4.

SJU (9-8, 6-3 MIAC) visits Carleton in the MIAC Semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in Northfield.

The Johnnies broke the three-way tie with Bethel and Macalester to earn the No. 3 seed in next week's MIAC Playoffs due to the second criteria: total individual singles and doubles matches won against tied teams. SJU defeated Bethel 6-3 back on April 6, while the Royals defeated Macalester 5-4 on April 15. The Scots edged the Johnnies by a score of 5-4 on March 31. Bethel played its way into the three-team tie with a win today over Hamline.
