Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - Saint John's baseball opened its trip with a doubleheader sweep of Concordia (Wis.), 13-8 and 4-0, on Saturday, March 16, in Tucson, Ariz.

SJU (10-1 overall) broke open a 4-2 contest with eight runs in the top of the sixth inning in game one's slugfest and rode the arm of senior Jake Dickmeyer (Woodbury, Minn.) to his second complete-game shutout in as many starts in the nightcap.

Five Johnnies recorded two hits apiece in the game-one victory. Senior left fielder Jack Wingerd (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) drove in four runs, all with two outs, and junior third baseman Jack Schramel (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) added three RBI.

The Falcons (0-4 overall) chased senior Danny Kuhn (Alexandria, Minn.) from the game with four runs in the top of the sixth. Senior Tommy Auger (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) surrendered an RBI single and then induced lineout double play to stop the bleeding and end the inning. Both teams added a single run in the seventh inning to conclude the scoring.

Kuhn allowed seven runs, four earned, on 10 hits in 5.1 innings to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Junior designated hitter Joey Stock (Cold Spring, Minn./Saint John's Prep) followed his 2-for-2, 4-run performance in game one with a two-run homer to start the scoring in the first inning of game two.

The reigning MIAC Pitcher of the Week, Dickmeyer allowed three hits and struck out eight, to one walk, in the complete-game shutout. He set down the final 13 batters.

The Johnnies play a pair of nine-inning games against different opponents on Sunday, March 17: Marian (Wis.) at 9 a.m. MT and Wesleyan (Conn.) at 12:30 p.m. MT.
