COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Saint John's University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a Special Olympics event on Sunday, Jan. 13, in Collegeville.

Fourteen Special Olympics athletes participated in the two-hour event, competing in basketball and floor hockey with SJU's basketball and hockey teams in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.

"It was great to host a Special Olympics event in the St. Cloud area," SJU basketball senior Ethan Larson, who spearheaded the event, said. "Everyone had a great time.

"We couldn't have done this without the support of the SJU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Devin Kaasa at Special Olympics Minnesota, and (SJU senior) Will Gillach. I'm looking forward to growing the event in the future."

Sunday's event consisted of both SJU teams leading the athletes in basketball and floor-hockey drills, followed by a pair of 10-minute basketball games.
