NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's tennis ended the 2018 season, its best since 2004, with an 8-1 loss at No. 38 Carleton in the MIAC Playoff semifinals on Friday, May 4, in Northfield.
The eighth-ranked team in the Central Region, Carleton (21-3, 8-1 MIAC) swept all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles bouts in straight sets.
Freshman
Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) won the lone match for SJU (13-5, 7-2 MIAC) at No. 3 singles. He won the first set (6-2) and lost the second via a tie-breaker (7-6/7-5), only to win the super-breaker with a 10-7 decision.
Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson), the Johnnies' lone senior, ended his collegiate career with a 50-29 (24-12 MIAC) record in singles competition and a 46-31 (22-14 MIAC) record in doubles play.
