BECKER, Minn. – No. 11/12 Saint John's golf defeated No. 1/4 St. Thomas 294-300 on Friday, April 27, at Pebble Creek G.C. (par 72) in Becker.

The Johnnies also topped the Tommies, who were ranked No. 1 by Golfstat and No. 4 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division III top 25 poll released April 20, in match play by an 8-3 score.

Senior Sam Olson (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) and junior Jack Koehler (Eden Prairie, Minn.) led SJU with a 1-under par 71 each. The round was Olson's team-leading sixth at par of below this season.

Emmet Herb earned medalist honors with a 4-under par 68 for the Tommies.

Sophomore David Schneider (Albany, Minn.) followed with a 75 (+3), while senior Austin Kottke (New Prague, Minn.) and sophomore Matt Lutz (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) rounded out the Johnnies' five with a 77 (+5) each. 

Freshman Preston Kopel (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Foley) led the pack of 13 individual players with a 1-over par 73. Sophomore Matt Wahl (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) carded a 74 (+2).

The Johnnies host their annual spring invitational Sunday and Monday, April 29-30. Sunday's round is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start at Monticello C.C. (par 71), followed by a 10 a.m. round Monday at The Territory G.C. (par 72) in St. Cloud.
