SJU Starts Spring-Break Trip With 8-1 Win

ORLANDO, Fla. – Saint John's tennis opened its spring-break trip with an 8-1 win over Division II Cedarville (Ohio) on Monday, March 5, in Orlando.

SJU (5-0 overall) swept all three doubles matches, including a 9-7 decision from freshman Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and senior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) at No. 1.

Two of the Johnnies' five singles wins came via the super-breaker: Larson at No. 1 (6-3, 3-6, 10-6) and junior Hunter Krebsbach (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) at No. 4 (7-5, 2-6, 10-4).

The Yellow Jackets' (4-4 overall) lone win was at No. 2 singles.

The Johnnies play two matches on Tuesday, March 6, beginning with an 11:30 a.m. EST bout with Rhodes (Tenn.). SJU returns to the court to take on Saint Vincent (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m. EST.
