Win Streak Ends at Four for SJU Tennis

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Saint John's tennis saw its win streak end at four matches with a 6-3 loss to Division II Augustana (S.D.) on Sunday, March 25, at the 98th Street Racquet Club in Bloomington.

SJU (9-2 overall) gained a 2-1 lead after doubles competition but won only one of the six singles matches.

Freshman Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) and senior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) improved to 11-1 overall and 10-0 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 win, their 10th in a row.

Freshman Nate Jordre (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) and junior Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, to move to 8-4 (7-3 at No. 2) on the year.

Jordre won his eighth consecutive match at No. 6 singles, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5). He is now 12-1 overall, including an 8-0 (7-0 at No. 6) mark in dual competition.

The Vikings (5-6 overall) won the other five singles matches in straight sets.

SJU returns to conference competition with a pair of road matches April 6 (at Bethel) and April 7 (at St. Thomas).
