SARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's tennis opened its conference schedule with a 7-2 win over Concordia-Moorhead on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Sta-Fit in Sartell.

Concordia (2-1, 0-1 MIAC) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after double competition, but SJU (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) won all six singles matches to seal the win.

Senior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) avenged last year's super-breaker loss to the Cobbers' Isaac Toivonen with a super-breaker win of his own Sunday at No. 1: 6-2, 4-6 and 10-7. Larson is now 6-1 this season.

Larson and freshman Thomas Gillach (Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) improved to 4-1 with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Junior Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Gillach, like Larson, moved their dual records to 3-0 with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

The Johnnies return to the court in two weeks with two road matches. SJU travels to face Hamline at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis and travel further south for a non-conference match with Luther (Iowa) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in Owatonna.
