MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – No. 15 Saint John's won its 10th consecutive game with an 85-75 road victory at Augsburg on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Minneapolis.
SJU (12-1, 8-0 MIAC) led by as much as 24 with 3:47 remaining and cleared the bench shortly thereafter. The visitors held the MIAC's leading scorer, Collin Olmscheid (19.0 ppg.), to 10 points on 4-for-17 shooting (0-for-6 from three-point range).
The Johnnies have now won four straight games at Si Melby Hall and eight of the last nine meetings overall.
Sophomore wing
Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) led all scorers with 21 points, including 12 straight for SJU in a span of 3:26 early in the game. He scored a career-high 30 points against Augsburg last Feb. 8.
SJU ended the first half with an 8-2 run to take a 44-37 lead into intermission. The Johnnies posted a 10-3 scoring edge off turnovers in the game's first 20 minutes, but Augsburg (11-4, 6-4 MIAC) out-rebounded SJU 20-14 (9-3 on the offensive glass) and poured in a 13-0 advantage in second-chance points. The tide turned in favor of SJU, however, as the Johnnies posted a 22-15 rebounding margin (7-3 offensive) in the second half.
Senior post
Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while senior guard
Garrett Goetz (Rosemount, Minn.) matched his 15 points with seven assists.
Booker Coplin led the Auggies with 19 points and a 5-for-6 performance from the three-point arc.
SJU begins a stretch of three straight home games at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, against Macalester (2-12, 1-8 MIAC) in Sexton Arena.
