SJU Tops Saint Mary's on the Tennis Court, 6-3

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's dedicated its new Chang Tennis Complex and posted a 6-3 win over Saint Mary's on Saturday, April 22, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies (3-12, 2-5 MIAC) swept all three doubles matches, thanks to 8-2 win at Nos. 1 and 2 and a narrow 9-8 (7-4) victory at No. 3, and split the six bouts in singles play.

Junior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) won his fifth match in a row, in straight sets (6-3, 6-2), to improve to 10-4 (5-2 MIAC) at No. 1 singles.

Sophomore Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) earned a convincing victory at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0) and freshman Jess Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) won at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1).

Brett Giesen posted a win via the super-breaker for the Cardinals (9-8, 2-7 MIAC) at No. 2 over sophomore Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi): 3-6, 6-4 and 10-3.

The Johnnies wrap up their regular-season schedule with two home matches next weekend, beginning with a 4 p.m. bout with Hamline on Friday, April 28. St. Olaf visits Collegeville for the finale at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29.
