Balanced Johnnies Overwhelm Gustavus in 90-65 Win

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's basketball returned to the win column thanks to an impressive offensive and defensive effort in a 90-65 win over Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Feb. 11, in Sexton Arena.

The Johnnies (15-7, 11-6 MIAC) shot 66.7 percent from the field in the first half, overall (18-for-27) and from three-point range (12-for-18), to gain a 49-20 halftime lead. The Gusties (5-18, 5-13 MIAC) shot 33.3 percent (9-for-27) from the floor, 14.3 percent (1-for-7 from behind the arc, in the first 20 minutes and scored their 12th point with 5:30 left before intermission.



SJU led by as much as 36 and none of its starters played more than five minutes in the second half. Twelve different Johnnies scored a point or more.

Sophomore guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) made each of his first five shot attempts, all three-pointers, to finish with 15 points and five assists in 22 minutes. Freshman wing Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) followed his 30-point performance in Wednesday's (Feb. 8) loss to Augsburg with 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench.

Junior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season and ninth of this career. He scored 10 points in four minutes of play in the second half alone.

Vannis Smith (1.8 ppg.) led all scorers with 17 points off the bench for GAC.

The Johnnies travel to face Macalester (8-14, 4-13 MIAC) for a 7 p.m. game on Monday, Feb. 13, in St. Paul.
