ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester shot 67.6 percent (23-for-34) from the field after halftime, including 85.7 percent (6-for-7) in overtime, in a 100-97 overtime win over Saint John's on Monday, Feb. 13, in St. Paul.
The Scots (9-14, 5-13 MIAC) entered the game 10th out of 11 MIAC teams in shooting percentage (.438) and scored 26 points off 17 Johnnie turnovers.
SJU (15-8, 11-7 MIAC) committed 10 turnovers (to three for Mac) and was whistled for 14 fouls, including three offensive, in the first half as it faced a 36-33 deficit at the break. The visitors shot 54.5 percent (12-for-22) from the field, but points off turnovers were 14-0 in favor of Mac.
The Johnnies trailed by as much as five 3:18 into the second half but battled back to gain a seven-point lead (72-65) with 3:53 remaining in regulation. The Scots, however, made six of their final seven shots and ended the game with a 14-7 run to tie the game at 77-77. Sophomore guard

Mac made its first four field goals of overtime, including two treys, and led by seven (91-84) with 1:52 left, but Stokman drained back-to-back three-pointers to cut SJU's deficit to one (91-90). The Scots' Michael Gutierrez ran over junior
Patrick Strom (Fargo, N.D./Shanley), who had two feet down and was planted two feet from the restricted area, en route to a traditional three-point play with 49 seconds left.
Stokman brought SJU to within one point twice, once on a three-pointer with 22.5 seconds left (96-95) and again on two free throws with 18.5 seconds remaining (98-97). The Scots made only two of their final four free-throw attempts but junior guard
Brent Hentges' (Carver, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) game-tying, three-point attempt bounced off the front iron as time expired.
Stokman led all scorers with a career-high 37 points on only seven made field goals (7-for-12), including a 5-for-6 performance from three-point range, thanks to an 18 of 19 showing from the free-throw line. He also collected eight assists. Stokman scored 30 points on six of nine shooting (4-for-4 from three-point) after halftime.
Hentges added a career-high 22 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench.
Kareem Ismail led Mac with 28 points on 12 of 16 shooting and recorded 14 rebounds. Gutierrez, the MIAC's leading scorer at 21.9 points per game, chipped in 26 and Dylan Kilgour added 18. The win was the first for Mac at home against SJU since 2005.
The Johnnies return home to host Hamline for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Sexton Arena.
