Box Score

WINONA, Minn. – Sophomore goaltender Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) stopped all 15 shots faced for his first collegiate shutout and Saint John's erupted for four third-period goals in a 7-0 win at Saint Mary's on Friday, Dec. 1, in Winona.

SJU (7-2-2, 3-2-0 MIAC) snapped a 0-for-12 scoreless streak on the power play with a 3-for-3 showing Friday night, including a pair 28 seconds apart in the third period. Fourteen different Johnnies recorded a point in the victory, including seven different goal scorers.

Freshman goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) shut out the Cardinals (3-7-1, 1-3-1 MIAC) with a 30-save effort earlier this season (Oct. 28) at the MIAC Showcase (1-0 win).

Sophomore forward Brady Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) negated the Johnnies' second offensive-zone penalty of the first period with a shorthanded, breakaway goal 8:20 into the game. The goal was his team-leading fifth of the season and 25th career point.

Senior forward Sam Valerius (Maple Grove, Minn.) gave SJU a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal, his 20th career tally, on a rebound off the initial shot from junior forward Robb Stautz (Roseville, Minn.) with 3:44 left in the opening period.

Freshman forward Ryan Kero (Hermantown, Minn.) crashed the net and put away a rebound for his second goal of the season, and fifth point, one minute into the second period.

Junior defenseman Sean Lang (Apple Valley, Minn.) started the four-goal third period with his 15th career tally 4:13 into the final frame.

Sophomore defenseman Adam Orn (Ramsey, Minn.) took advantage of a 5-on-3 power-play 4:09 later and junior forward Joe Chitwood (Carmel, Ind.) lit the lamp with a power-play goal of his own 28 seconds after that. Junior forward Mitch Fritz (St. Cloud, Minn.) ended the scoring for SJU with 5:13 remaining.

Saint Mary's entered the game last in the MIAC on the power play at 11.4 percent (5-for-44) and went 0-for-5 on the night.

SJU goes for the series sweep at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in Winona.
