ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's tennis posted a 9-0 shutout at Hamline on Thursday, April 21, in St. Paul.
The Johnnies (9-7, 5-3 MIAC) won seven matches in clean fashion and a pair of singles wins via the super-breaker over the Pipers (7-12, 0-8 MIAC). Senior
Jack Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) won his first set 6-1 at No. 1, dropped the second and posted a 10-7 win in the super. Senior
Joey Evavold (Andover, Minn./Anoka) lost his first set at No. 5 in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-4), only to battle back for a 7-5 win in the second and a 10-2 decision in the super.
Sophomore
Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) recorded the Johnnies' best performance of the day, 6-1 and 6-2, to improve to 11-4 (7-1 MIAC) at No. 2 singles.
Seniors
Ben Lahren (Wausau, Wis./West) and
Andrew Nagel (Maple Grove, Minn.) won each of their respective singles matches at Nos. 4 and 3, respectively, but started the day with a convincing 8-1 win to improve to 8-1 (4-1 MIAC) at No. 2 doubles.
The Johnnies return home to host St. Scholastica for a non-conference match at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph.
