ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's tennis won its fifth in a row with a 7-2 victory at Macalester on Sunday, April 10, in St. Paul.
SJU (8-5, 4-2 MIAC) returned to the court for the first time since March 25 in Orlando and posted five singles en route to the victory. The 7-2 decision snapped a streak of six consecutive matches in the series in which match was decided by a 5-4 score (3-3 record).
MAC (6-6, 1-2 MIAC) tallied wins at No. 1 singles (via super-breaker) and No. 1 doubles.
Sophomore
Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) improved to 9-3 (5-1 MIAC) at No. 2 singles with a 7-6 (7-5) and 7-5 decision. Senior
Ben Lahren (Wausau, Wis./West) won in straight sets at No. 4 (6-4 and 6-2), while classmate
Andrew Nagel (Maple Grove, Minn.) and freshman
Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) posted wins at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, via the super-breaker.
Freshman
Jonah Punnoose (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) moved to 5-0 (2-0 MIAC) at No. 6 with a 6-1 and 7-6 (7-3) victory.
SJU's match at Bethel, which was scheduled for yesterday (April 9) but was postponed due to the cold, has been rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, in Arden Hills.
The Johnnies return home to host Division II St. Cloud State for a 4 p.m. match on Thursday, April 14, at the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph.
