ResultsST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Saint John's tennis won four of the six singles matches to pull out a 5-4 win over Hamline on Wednesday, April 15, at the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph.
The tandem of junior
Ben Lahren (Wausau, Wis./West) and freshman
Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn.) eked out a close 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 2 to post the lone win for SJU (7-7, 3-4 MIAC) in doubles competition against the Pipers (8-8, 1-6 MIAC). The duo is now 8-0 (7-0 MIAC) on the year.
Junior
Jack Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) returned to the win column with a win at No. 1 singles (6-2 and 6-2), while Larson posted a straight-set victory of his own at No. 2 (6-2 and 6-1).
Lahren and sophomore
Steven Wirtz (Overland Park, Kan./Bishop Miege) followed with wins at Nos. 4 (6-2, 6-2) and 5 (6-4, 6-4), respectively.
The Johnnies make a brief return to non-conference play with a pair of home matches this weekend, beginning with a 4 p.m. bout with Division II St. Cloud State on Friday, April 17. SJU then hosts St. Scholastica for a noon match on Sunday, April 19.
