ResultsSARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's tennis dropped a 5-4 decision to Saint Mary's on Sunday, April 12, at Fitness Evolution in Sartell.
The match was originally scheduled to be held outdoors at the CSB Tennis Courts in St. Joseph but was moved indoors at the last minute due to wind and the forecasted storms.
SMU (14-6, 4-4 MIAC) gained a 2-1 lead in doubles competition, including a close 9-7 score at No. 3, and the two teams split the six singles matches.
Junior
Jack Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) saw his winning streak end at six with a 6-1 and 7-6 (8-6) loss at No. 1 singles. He is now 7-6 (5-1 MIAC) at No. 1.
Freshman
Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson), junior
Ben Lahren (Wausau, Wis./West) and sophomore
Steven Wirtz (Overland Park, Kan./Bishop Miege) won their singles matches in straights at Nos. 2, 4 and 5, respectively.
Lahren and Larson improved to 7-0 (6-0 MIAC) at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
The Johnnies host Hamline for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday, April 15, in St. Joseph.
