Johnnies End Tennis Season With Semifinal Loss at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. – Saint John's ended its 2014 tennis season with a 9-0 loss at No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus in the MIAC Playoff Semifinals on Friday, May 2, in St. Peter.

The contest was decided with the fifth point, but both teams agreed to finish the remaining matches without the presence of an umpire.

The Gusties (27-5, 9-0 MIAC) gained a 3-0 lead with 8-3 decisions at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, and an 8-2 win at No. 2.

Junior Jordan Otto (Rice, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) and sophomore Andrew Nagel (Maple Grove, Minn.) fell at No. 3 (6-1, 6-1) and No. 6 (6-1, 6-0) singles, respectively.

Senior Joe Laue (St. Louis Park, Minn./Holy Angels) won his first set at No. 2, 6-3, but was down 2-1 in the second when the fifth and final point was decided. He lost via the super-breaker, 10-6.

SJU ends its season with a 9-11 record (4-5 MIAC).
