SJU Suffers First Loss of 2013 Season

WAVERLY, Iowa – Saint John's suffered its first soccer loss of the season, 3-0 to Wartburg, on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Waverly, Iowa.

Wartburg (3-0-1 overall) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back. Dan Nadeau scored 3:14 into the match and Bob Brown made it 2-0 with a penalty kick at the 17:09 mark. With SJU (2-1-0 overall) pressing late, the Knights added an insurance goal with 6:31 remaining in the match.

Senior Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) made six saves in the loss.

The Johnnies travel 70 miles northeast to face No. 6 Luther for a 4 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 8, in Decorah, Iowa. Augsburg handed the Norse their first loss of the season, 2-1, today (Sept. 7) in Decorah.
