COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University sophomore Zane Heinselman (River Falls, Wis.) scored his third goal of the season, off a rebound, 4:09 into the first overtime to defeat Carleton 2-1 on Friday, Sept. 14.

The home match, which served as the conference opener for both teams, was the first under the lights in SJU history.

SJU (3-1-2, 1-0-0 MIAC) got on the scoreboard first when junior Michael Coborn (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) blasted a free kick at the keeper's head and the deflection went directly to the foot of sophomore David Wee (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) for his third goal of the young season.

The Knights (4-1-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) tied the match at 1-1 off a free kick, just outside the box, from Alex Voorhes at 66:46 of the match.

Four minutes into overtime, sophomore Ian Scudder (Sherwood, Ore.) dribbled up the left sideline and fed Coborn in the box, who then turned the corner and slid a pass into the middle of the goal box where a hard-charging Heinselman put it away.

Junior Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) made six saves in the victory, including a game-saving stop off the foot of Carleton's Branden McGarrity with one second remaining in regulation.

The Johnnies return to non-conference action against Wartburg (Iowa) this Sunday, Sept. 16. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.

Notes: The victory snapped a five-match losing streak for SJU against Carleton, in which three of the losses occurred in overtime… the Johnnies are now 21-8-1 all-time against the Knights, including a 12-2-1 record in Collegeville, since 1983…Carleton entered the match ranked sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) North Region rankings released Sept. 11…the Knights have won/tied for the MIAC regular-season title four of the last five seasons.
